Floating Support - Help with Housing

Our Floating Support Service is a housing related service which will help you to set up your new home after leaving a domestically abusive relationship, or help you to stay in your current home after the person abusing you has left or has been removed. Your worker will help you to think about the kind of support you would like to help you feel safe and confident to manage your home and feel part of the community you live in. your worker will help you to plan how to move forward.

What’s on Offer?

  • Tenancy support including: sign up, negotiating with your landlord, arranging repairs and adaptations, understanding your rights and responsibilities
  • Personal safety and additional home security measures
  • Financial advice and information around budgeting and payment plans, claiming benefits, managing debts and arrears
  • Support to make links with doctors, dentists, health visitors and other specialist health care professionals and specific support/ self help groups
  • Help around education, training, employment and becoming involved with your community.
  • Support around children’s needs including schools, nurseries, children’s centres, parenting, behaviour, educational welfare, social care etc.
  • Advocacy- help you to have your voice heard within other agencies and organisations that you and your children may be involved with
  • Sign posting and referral to other services you or your children may need.

The service can be for a few weeks or up to one and a half years depending on your needs. The worker will visit you in your home, every week for about an hour.

Who is the service offered to?

Women who have experienced domestic abuse and who are solely responsible for their tenancy (private rent, council owned, housing association or mortgaged), who live in the North Derbyshire area.

(NDWA provides support to men who have/ are experiencing domestic abuse through our Outreach services)

How to contact us?

You can refer yourself by dropping in or telephoning the Advice Centre, or by talking to any NDWA worker. Workers from other agencies/organisations can also refer you to floating support, through the Advice Centre.
